Yup. Our ancestral family name was Hörlacher — pronounced close to HER-lok-er auf Deutsch. Our great-grandfather changed it to Herlocker for an American spelling (and to avoid WHORE-latch-er).
<sigh> In this area there are several Harlacker families, who are not at all related (we’re German, they’re Hungarian, for one thing). But people see the name, think “Ah!”, and we get called HAR-lak-er. If we catch it, we can say, “Not HIS locker, not THEIR locker, just HER locker.”
Sometimes it sticks. <sigh>
