You didn’t quit, Ellie, you decided to focus on things you can do long-term without destroying yourself and hurting loved ones around you. You learned things that will help you help others in the future. Best of all, you didn’t get so burned out that you don’t want to help anyone ever again; you just need to recuperate and rethink your life. (You will probably do this a few times over your lifetime. If you don’t, you may not be doing your life right. You certainly won’t be taking any chances.) And (bonus for us) you’re still a kick-ass writer.

Oh, and what Larry Couch said: make sure you set aside some bucks every paycheck, and stick them in a place that’s hard as hell to get to before 59½. At some point it will be Very Useful (this from someone 4 months away from 59½).
