(Different, probably longer, piece? 😁) Having lived with socialist medicine the first 14 years of my adult life (US Navy) and the capitalist medical insurance system since, I give a big thumbs up to socialist medicine. Not having to deal with the paperwork; not having to change doctors when I change insurance providers; not having to play, “Okay, but can you give a ballpark figure on how much this operation will cost? To the nearest thousand? And how much of that will be out of pocket?” Not having to go through eight pages of documents to determine that, ah, this was for my COVID test (the word “COVID” never appeared, I had to guess from the date) last month and no, I will not be charged for any of the four line items (wtf?) listed incoherently by my insurance company. <snarl>
