You Are My Star, My Center

On stage and in life

In your youth
you played supporting roles
on school stages —
the mother, the aunt, the older woman —
but now
you play the lead role
in our life —
my wife, my partner, my best friend —
now you are
my star
my center
my wonderful darling lady
with a light that never dims
and a smile that takes me back
to a love that never fades

For my wife, Debra, of whom I am somewhat fond.

And for Jenny Justice, who innocently asked for star poetry and got hit with odes to my wife. At least from me.

The one at the top of this page is #4, if you were paying attention. It was #847 if you weren’t paying attention. What have you learned from this?
