My non-straight friends in relationships (that I get to observe) are all cis-female, so my data are skewed, but IMHO the Mars-Venus thing can play across any two people in a relationship, gender et al an influence but not a lock, because just like you said, it’s a matter of how someone tends to communicate. Maybe we can guess how someone will be more likely to communicate, based on factors we know beforehand, but once we actually start to learn about the person we need to modify our behavior to match who they are, not what some book says they should be.

And thank you for the kind words! I only get half credit for the Conversation series, of course, since (for *so* many reasons) I couldn’t do it without my other half.
