Yes! Gillian, my first wife and I got engaged and married in three days (would have been two but: #paperwork) because we didn’t want to lose control of our wedding. As we would have, once our mothers got involved. (We were on the other side of the world in Guam; we’d known each other for three years at that point; we’d talked about marriage for over a year before she proposed; we were both Navy lieutenants — this wasn’t two dumb kids eloping.) Although the marriage imploded before the second anniversary, it wasn’t because of the wedding. We still look at it as the best decision we made. And everything you said was spot on.
