Why 500 words/day? (Not saying it’s a bad number, just asking.) I figure you had a reason why 500 seemed like a good number, and I’m wondering what it was. (“I needed a goal, and that seemed do-able” is fine.)
Me, I set a goal last year of publishing one Medium post per week. Any length, but original, not a reply or comment. And I told myself I could use my old stuff, so long as it hadn’t been on Medium before. And poetry was legit (ha! that took care of a fair amount of filler!).
So some of my posts have been old crap; some have been old crap updated; some have been short pieces I’ve dashed off because I got tired of my ToDo reminder glaring at me; some were “short” pieces that kept me up until midnight (I get up at 05:00—midnight is late, for me). Some got responses, some got crickets.
I don’t currently make myself do one a week, since my wife is back home and she needs to be in lights-out mode at a reasonable hour (!=midnight, IOW), but I still get satisfaction from posting responses. Like this one, say. :-)
