Which is how Deb still had the last name of her much-despised second husband when I met her. She was fine taking my last name when we married—no arguments!
OTOH, my first wife hated her birth name and happily switched to Herlocker. Even after we divorced, she asked if she could keep it. Which is why there is a Doctor Commander Linda Herlocker, Ed.D, USNR(Ret.) out there in the world today. 😁
OTOOH, my sister hated her birth name and happily dumped it when she married the first time. But then she found that her husband's last name was common in the TV/movie industry, while Herlocker, not so much. So she's her birth name in her professional sphere and uses her second husband's last name in her personal life... and of course her kids still have their father's (first husband's) last name, so there's no confusion at all. 🙄
