When I heard about this process as a kid, I mentally pictured regal seabirds flying over the oceans, seeds clutched in their beaks, descending on craggy islands and gently depositing their precious gifts. Perhaps using a foot to move a bit of soil on the seed for protection. 😊

Or...

I find later the birds just poop on islands when they come down to rest. The undigested seeds are just byproducts. Oh. ☹️

OTOH, the seeds get buried *and* fertilized, so I guess it's more efficient, overall. 😁
