Otherwise, not being a paid author, the only thing I can think of for a Medium upgrade is what I've been asking for since 2015 — real footnotes. The kind you see on sites like Wordpress where the reader can click on the footnote symbol, get taken down to the footnote, then click the back icon to return to the same spot. Alas, since it's just I and some odd academics who would like that (Terry Pratchett, where are you when we need you?), I do not expect to see it any time soon. ☹️
