We saw The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee at a local theater a couple years ago. It was cute. There was some language that I would change for a student production — not because the words aren't ones that teenagers use as because parents don't want to think their kids use them.

There were gay dads? Um, okay. I believe you. Didn't make an impression, and I don't recall it being a plot point.

OTOH, this was the same theater that put on Fun Home by Alison Bechdel, with a gay narrator and a gay dad who was VERY much a plot point. Recommended!
