We have (kind of) made peace with our squirrels, Dennett. We have even hung a “corn cob” (actually compressed corn meal in a cylinder — handles the weather better and lasts longer than a real cob) for the little jerks (but they STILL prefer the birds’ suet, except for one).
This is Skippy (aka “Skippy the Wonder Squirrel,” my nemesis of many years, so I realize they must be third generation or more by now) ignoring the corn and going for the suet. I know it’s Skippy because they let me get close enough to shoot photos. The other squirrels are skittish because The Crazy Lady (you know her as Deb) comes over and pounds on the window to scare them off the feeder. Skippy is only deterred by Deb opening the door (three feet from the feeder) and sometimes ignores her until the screen is pushed back.
Skippy also will eat upright or upside-down, switching as they feel like it. The other squirrels pick one and stick to it.
