We had a pro do it, Bonnie, although he didn’t so much design as “artistically create” the whole thing. We have a pencil sketch of the initial proposal; you can sort of make out similarities to our current back yard. Sort of. Two waterfalls instead of one; terrace on the far right instead of the middle; trees changed in count and type. And the final cost differed from the written estimate by… okay, we never actually got a written estimate. Now, he also discovered drainage challenges (our uphill neighbors had altered the flow of runoff since our house was built, so in the middle of construction he had to rebuild the drainage system after a big storm; then change it AGAIN after another gully washer showed the need for improvement) and suggested other fixes to the yard as he went along, so a written estimate would have been worthless anyway, in the end. But when all was said and done, it was worth it.
