Very few people I've talked to about taking SS at 62 have understood the concept of the break-even point, Mary. Mostly it's been "Well, everybody knows you're supposed to wait!" (Plus one "Well that was stupid!" comment. With no numbers to back it up.)

I took SS at 62.0833 years (one month after birthday, and it does make a difference, albeit one as minuscule as you'd suspect) because by the time I hit the crossover point, there is an excellent chance I will be mentally diminished, if not suffering full dementia. Meanwhile my wife and I have been able to enjoy several trips together (not as many as we'd once hoped, due to COVID 🙄) and my early SS has been enough to help pay the bills and enjoy the retirement lifestyle to which we've become accustomed.

I'm sorry your medical situation pushed an early decision, Mary, but I'm glad it's working out for you. 💚
