Uhhh… <cough> That’s my bad, Sherry. I, um, have not been the most supportive son/brother; I tend to go ballistic about paying for things my father should be able to cover just fine. (Also, I can’t talk to my father about anything more serious than the weather without him pushing my buttons about something; Deb agrees that he does it deliberately [“Of course he knows where your buttons are, he helped put them there!”], but I need to be the grown-up in these situations.) So Deb & I agreed (“Jackster, why don’t we try this…”) that I would STFU and let my sister handle things, and we would back her up. Plus my sister got a Really Good Deal (which <*groan*> is freakin’ catnip to my sister and father) on the housing.
On the plus side (maybe?) my father has *not* signed the final papers, it turns out. He wants the family lawyer to review them first. Which (a) seems very sensible, and (b) indicates to his suspicious unsupportive son that someone is looking for a reason to back out (the $2500 deposit — that my sister paid, of course — is fully refundable). So I feel like I’m missing some important bits of data in all this, and possibly I had a meltdown for nothing.
