Trees scare me, Mark. Part of our reasoning for rebuilding our backyard was to remove trees that were very tall and living on a slope. Also, we live in hilly country, and many back roads follow ravines because how else you gonna build ‘em? But the roads coexist with streams. And the last Friday in August we had a storm stall over our area and dump several inches in spots; streams turned into torrents and ravines focused the water onto or under the roads, collapsing them. And then the water hit houses.
