Tops on our Grand Retirement Plan: get out of debt. Paid off the mortgage (yippee!); spent the next few years after that catching up on all the maintenance things that weren’t getting done while we paid off the mortgage (new roof; fix flooding problems in basement). Set up a savings plan so property taxes are painless, or at least semi-automatic. And then life happened, in terms of unexpected expenses. <sigh> But we’re in better shape financially than 94% of our peers! [I made that number up. Don’t tell Deb.]
