Today, Ann, we put out our new hummingbird feeder, based on our hummer intelligence map:

We used to carefully clean old feeders at the start of each season, but the ones that clean easily aren’t as good and the good ones are a pain to clean, or have odd crevices that hide mold. Too hard. Now we just get a cheap feeder at the start of each season. Our hummers approve.

The Amazon photo for the feeder we got shows a mob of hummers lining up to feed. HA! Our hummers are the types who either will not tolerate anyone at THEIR feeder, or will not even tolerate anyone in THEIR yard. We did have a female who would wait in the tree, and when the MY YARD female chased off an intruder she would dive down and sit on the feeder on the opposite side the M.Y. female disappeared to. So the M.Y. female would return, secure in the knowledge she had scourged her domain, and Sneaky Hummer would be sipping away. Fortunately nobody cares that we’re sitting in our porch watching all this.
