Alicia and Ed were packed and ready, waiting for their departure group to be called for debarkation, sitting together on the bed.

“Says the man who has a week’s worth of vacation clothes in one, count ’em, one bag, which he can sling across his back. No, Ed, I’m fine, the least, the very least I can do is carry my own bags.” Alicia took his hand and squeezed it. “Thank you! For rescuing me from freezing to death, and letting me crash with you, and being a supportive new friend, and hardly ever hogging the covers, and just making the cruise from hell into something that was actually pretty fun.”

“Even if you never got laid?” Ed winked at her.

“See, right there, if you hadn’t been here I’d have ended up shacking up with some asshole who would have treated me nice the first night and then just got worse and worse. My whole relationship with Rob compressed into a week. But one last favor? Could…
