The last birthday party for me was a surprise party thrown by my mother; nobody showed up (surprise!). Deb and I don't hate parties, but we'd much rather go to ones for somebody else than ones for us, no matter what the occasion. (Deb does, however, enjoy organizing parties for other people. But planning and organizing is a pet joy for her.)
