Thanks, Anna. The limited backstory I have is that the couple bought an AI hologram based on Jon’s late father, using photos, videos, and correspondence. (Something like this has already happened, but using a text-only chatbot.) Jon was basically pampering his wife (no resemblance to any actual persons intended, of course!) by giving her a simulacrum of her late father-in-law. Then when his wife found she had cancer, she ordered and helped design a hologram of herself, so that Jon would have someone after she died; it’s more authentic than the father-in-law one, because there are fewer interpolations. This story takes place shortly after her death, so Jon is still adjusting.
