I had my first CPR class at the Naval Academy in the late 1970s; another class in the early 1990s; and then the most recent one a few years ago, in conjunction with AED training (the last one was basically “here’s what you do while your colleague is getting the AED; then back off and let the AED do its job”). The only thing I remember being consistent was Don’t Bang On The Chest Because Life Is Not Like TV And That Won’t Restart The Heart. So I would have told Sherry to stop banging and do compression instead, and in this case I’d have been wrong.
