Where do I go
when you’re not there?
Lights
so bright
so far
so cold
but they’re not
You
and I am just me
while deep deep space
leaves me cold and alone
waiting until
Your Touch
brings me back

For my wife, Debra, who pulls me back from… out there.

And Jenny Justice, for Star Week:

About the title: in Robert A. Heinlein’s book The Star Beast, a senior official of a galactic federation has just been told that a race of super-beings has landed and they have specific demands they want fulfilled NOW. When the official expresses surprise that he’s never heard of this species, despite the long history and wide span of the federation, the envoy shrugs and replies simply, “Space is deep, Excellency.”
