OLD German, probably. When Deb and I worked for a German company, she would take German visitors to visit Amish Country in Lancaster County. They reported it was like us trying to follow a reading of Chaucer — lots of words that almost made sense, but pronunciation was different, or usage was off, or it just didn't quite click.
