I didn’t know the term “code switching” until years after I learned to do it. I was singled out for harassment because I talked “funny” with my fancy words (how I talked with my high school peer group) at the Naval Academy. I learned to blend, I learned to mix, I learned to fit in. A part of the crowd, I am I am.

My problem is that I cannot blend into a crowd of plaid. 😊
