I agree with you on we shouldn't need to be determining how to cope with a random shooting. Alas, it's like global warming — while I agree that things should be done to reduce and remove greenhouse gases (sooner rather than later, please), I'm also going to make sure my home has backup power and storm reinforcement for the next hurricane that hits.
