Oh.

Burn scars on both hands. Quarter-size burn scar on my left leg. Acquired the summer between 5th & 6th grade.

Burning old plastic models with my father, who showed me how I could dip a stick in the burning plastic, give the stick a flick, and the plastic would shoot off leaving trails of flame and black smoke.

Left unsupervised, I found that a longer stick gave a more energetic flick. Shortly after that, I found that a longer stick also whipped back, sending burning plastic BACK AT ME. Very shortly after that, I presented my mother (the RN) with two hands and a leg with recently extinguished blobs of plastic.

My mother was not happy with my father.

Still, if I ever hear, “Does anyone know who these hands belong to?”, I can check for the scars and determine if they’re mine. So there’s that.
