Note to other readers: Besides helping the critters, water also provides delightful shows when the birds interact with it. We have an artificial stream, and we enjoy watching our birds drink (youngsters who have to carefully creep on the the moving water; regulars who land on their favorite rock to grab a couple sips and take off again), bathe, and play (or at least that's how we interpret some of our robins, who plunge into the water, splash droplets all over, fly to a branch or piece of driftwood, then flutter, groom themselves, and shake their tailfeathers). Alas, I don't have the camera gear that Erika does, so I can only describe our observations, but trust us, water for birds is fun!
