Not just a war, Gail, but a war with an outcome that determined whether our country and way of life would continue to exist. A war where the civilian population, comfortably away from the front lines, still gave up creature comforts through rationing and wages through taxes and war bond sales. A war where everyone had someone who had been killed or injured or could be at any time. It’s hard to imagine what such a war would look like in the 21st Century; certainly we’ve not had one in this country since WWII.
