My wife has a theory of “old souls”; people who have tastes and habits and outlooks like old people, only starting when they’re kids. They are miserable at dating and hanging out and even just being around most people their age, because for most of their life those people don’t match. They gradually get more acclimated to life (or vice versa?), and if they’re lucky they meet a fellow old soul at a young age and celebrate birthdays together (because they don’t really “grow old” together, they just add years).
