My sister-in-law, Jan, who went to nursing school before she started to cook for a family, laid out her baking prep like she would an OR table: each ingredient and utensil in proper order, as called for in the recipe. Her husband (Deb’s brother, Scott) thought this was hilarious. At one point, having just put the lasagna in the oven, she could not find a spoon. “OH NO,” said Scott, “It must still be in the patient! WE MAY HAVE TO OPEN HIM UP AGAIN!”
Jan found the spoon — and probably smacked Scott with it.
