My parents’ dog (Boston Terrier) liked to chase balls, but couldn’t always get people to cooperate. So she learned to take her ball up to the top of the stairs and roll it down. She developed a routine: lie down, deposit the ball between her legs, nudge it with her nose, nudge it, nudge it… the ball goes down the first step, second step, third step, NOW she bounds up and heads after it. Usually it gets to the bottom, but sometimes she could grab it on the bounce, and every so often she’d leap in the air from one of the steps near the bottom and intercept it in mid air. Those catches were worth a “happy dance” with some butt shaking.
