My late MiL had both knees replaced, and her doctors told her to NEVER put weight on her knees by kneeling. So one day she sat down on her bed and kinda missed — a soft, gentle slide to the floor, no damage done. No way to get herself up without kneeling. Bless her heart, she scootched over to the phone, got ready to call my wife, remembered Deb had meetings that morning, and called me instead. (Deb worked ten minutes away in one direction, I worked ten minutes away in another — very convenient!) I drove over, got her up (not easy — Mom was almost a head shorter than I but weighed a tad more), thanked her for calling me, assured her it was no problem (the poor dear was tremendously embarrassed), and went back to work.
