Much as I love my wonderful wife, she has the skills but not the self-confidence to do stand-up. Her best quips and digs are with me and family and office mates; she tends to be more shy with others. She also doesn’t have confidence in her improv skills, but give her a script, time to rehearse, and she’s golden. She does ten minutes stories for kids, no notes, no cards, just off her head, and she’s great; but she gets that way through practicing three, four, five times until she’s happy with it.
For her off-the-cuff comic wit, I tend to be the main beneficiary. Well, me and our Conversation readers. :-)
