Me, I loved school. Got good grades, involved in things, liked and respected by peers and teachers—school was great!

K-8 grades, that is. In the same school, with the same five dozen kids, who knew me and accepted me; teachers who had wide latitude to work with students; and options other than just what went on in the classrooms.

Then I went to high school (4,000 kids) and things fell apart. I’m almost 60, and I still have nightmares about high school.

Not sure if medication would have helped. Glad it wasn’t an option (I think).
