“Y’ever wish we could just make one last charge, get it over with? Like the last charge in Zulu?”

Shepherd explained “Old movie!” to Gaskell’s befuddled expression before she replied to Calhoun, “You remember the Zulus lost in the end, right, Sarge?”

“You wouldn’t want to avenge your ancestors?”

“First, my DNA says my people came from eastern Africa, thank you — and some from Scandinavia, Mom’s still trying to figure that one out—and second, I’m perfectly happy standing behind a few feet of mealie bags, waiting for the attack.”

“You people and your old movies!” muttered Gaskell.

“So hopefully the Lord of Hosts is with us.” Shepherd grinned. “Plus I can’t sing worth shit.”

“The Zulus had force-marched to Rorke’s Drift, they hadn’t had a real meal in days… the last charge was desperation.” Calhoun shrugged. “Hopefully it won’t come to that.”
