Mary, I've lived in 11 places over 42 years (counting college graduation as the starting point). The "worst" is hard to point to. My first apartment (on a Navy ensign's salary) was an efficiency with smaller square footage than our current bedroom, cinderblock bookshelves, and roaches that came pouring out when the oven was on. OTOH, I was in junior bachelor officers quarters in Seoul, South Korea for a year, sharing a "hooch" (3-bedroom home converted from Japanese housing captured in 1945 and "modernized" with things like the washer-dryer installed 16 inches from the front of the toilet) with two other officers and no a/c during a Seoul summer. OTOOH, I lived on a fold-out futon for nine months in my ex-wife's guest room while I was looking for a job during the 1990/91 recession; most of that period the woman my ex left me for was also living there, but it turned out we got along great (we were remarkably similar — go figure).

I've lived for over 22 years in a lovely house with a marvelous backyard, a delightful deck (replaced with a 4-season porch five years ago), and an absolutely AWESOME wife. In a few years, we'll move to a retirement community and be together the rest of our lives, however long that turns out to be.
