Is this because feeding encourages unnatural mixes of visitors, Wade? Our feeders encourage a certain range of birds (and squirrels!) probably to the exclusion of others; otoh, my wife adores our woodpeckers of various sizes, who dig around until they find a peanut then take off (to feed the kids or eat in private, we’re guessing, depending upon the season).
