I was thinking, Wow, never had problems with animals like poor Louise… until I saw Alan’s remark about hamsters. Ah!
Taking care of two gerbils for a buddy while he and his family were on vacation. I was maybe 12. Both gerbils were in their own cages. Nobody explained why, so I thought it was just for space. Time came to clean the cages, and hey, wouldn’t it make sense to put both gerbils in one cage while I cleaned the other? Why not?
Well, it turned out, because when placed together they would try to kill each other. Going for the jugulars. So me, I reach in to grab one to break them up. Cute little gerbil, who had been scampering on my shoulder not two minutes before, takes umbrage and proceeds to grab my finger with both front teeth, sinking them in to his gum line. So I did not actually have to grab him to lift him out, but I did have to provide encouragement to make him let go once he was back in the cage.
My mother (the RN) determined stitches were not required and the gerbils were unlikely to have rabies, so I was treated at home.
So no, Alan, having Louise stick to hamsters or smaller won’t make her safe.
