I was curious to read about the modern Korean single woman, Philippe, because I was stationed in Seoul with the US Navy in 1988 (same year as the Seoul Olympics). Most of the US personnel there were young GIs, and they were infatuated with young Korean women. Biggest comment from US men: "Korean women, they're so nice!" By which they meant, willing to go along with whatever their man wanted.
Korean saying: "Korean women start out as kittens, but end up as tigers." Once the American guy got married to his perfect girl, suddenly he wasn't #1 anymore. Starting with her mother moving in. And things went downhill from there. Many GIs ended up requesting reassignment to Korea after spending time in the States with two very unhappy women who complained about the US food, the culture, the language gap...
Sounds like Korean women have moved beyond their mothers and grandmothers. Good for them!
