I used to hate asparagus, mostly because I couldn’t cook it reliably and (IMHO) neither do too many restaurants (“Oh, I’m sorry, did you actually want to EAT the cute veggie? Sorry, sucks to be you.” See also “steamed” broccoli and other veggies whose purpose in life is to make the plate look pretty for that Instagram shot.) Then I learned the trick of snapping the stalk in “half” (or wherever it breaks naturally) and throwing out the bottom part. Major improvement, but I still only cook asparagus for recipes, rather than as a go-to vegetable. Too much distrust over the years.
