I still have (and use) the wooden spoon that was in the "setting up house" box (extraneous kitchen stuff Mom collected over the years for this purpose) that my mother gave me when I moved into my first apartment (efficiency with a cute little stove that erupted in roaches whenever I turned on the oven, furnished with my childhood bed and cinderblock + plank boards for bookshelves). Every so often I give it a soft sanding and rub it with light vegetable oil. After 43 years, still my go-to spoon for baking.
