I rode Space Mountain in 1981 while I was at Navy Nuke School (back when it was in Orlando) and it was freakin' terrifying! No clue to what was next, weird lights near, far, and unexpected... it was great!
In 1986 (family vacation) it was... interesting. The total darkness had been replaced with twilight lighting, and the imagined "vast array" of tracks was now visibly not much larger than a state fair coaster (or so it seemed).
By 2016 I was much older <cough> and Space Mountain seemed more interesting — better designed lighting to create surprise and anticipation, it seemed. Also seemed much rougher, but that might have been my 58-year-old body.
