I like the Long Exposure trick, Derrick, but (for water) I really like the Loop gimmick. For a statically dynamic scene like a waterfall, it helps create a delightful GIF when exported. We have an artificial stream in our back yard (powered by pumps) and I have captured looping water scenes in all four seasons.
