I just need somebody

Lines scribbled while she’s away

created by author using DALL-E: “older man and woman holding each other close, in the style of an oil painting”

“I just need somebody”
you said, pulling me close,
burying your face in my chest
while your hands stroked my sides

We barely know each other
but I will be your somebody
when you need one
if you will be
my somebody
when I need you

Then you sighed
and snuggled
and said
“I missed you!”

Odd things I come up with while my wife is out of town. When we were first dating — 24 years ago!—she would snuggle into me in bed, drifting between sleep and wakefulness, and whisper, “I missed you!” In two days I get to say it to her.
