I gave up on TV news decades ago, Ann, before Fox News and before “opinion is just news with spice!” became dominant. Before the 9/11 attacks—watching the TV then (because it was on in the company lunch room, the break area, and a V.P.’s office) reminded me that when there’s nothing new to see, they keep showing whatever is the most flashy, and if there’s a choice between intelligent analysis without video and superficial feelings with video, roll the video. Print lets me absorb what I want at my speed, and if video tells part of the story, there’s always a link.
