I don’t own a rifle, pistol, or shotgun, Dusty, and I haven’t fired a pistol (M1911A1) since I was in the ROK in 1988* (where they took preparedness *very* seriously, for some reason), but since you seem to know what you’re doing around firearms, question for you: wouldn’t a shotgun make more sense than a pistol for home defense? A pistol, even at close range, requires a steady hand and calm mind to be accurate, while a shotgun would have an impact over a wide area in the general down range direction. Thoughts?

*Shot Expert, and got the Navy medal for it, but it always seemed like cheating, since it was Army rules. They let me steady myself on sandbags! And I just had to get enough rounds into a silhouette! Thanks goodness they made me wear MOPP gear (anti-chemical warfare protection, with gas mask) or it would have been a joke.
