I am now very careful about night driving. I can do it in local neighborhoods that I know well, but a few years ago I started having panic episodes driving on unknown roads, especially in rain (the safety features on our car, like lane-keeping and adaptive cruise control, don’t function reliably in rain), and Deb had to take over. We did a road trip to New England this year — in June, with longer daylight, and if we were out after dark we were on foot.

I anticipate not driving at night at all after we move to a retirement community, since *all* the roads will be unfamiliar after dark. OTOH, we picked a place within walking distance of places (like your neighborhood, Roz).
