My late mother was director of health care at a retirement home for many years. She said early January and early December were their busiest times, because the “kids” would come home for Christmas or Thanksgiving and find that <gasp> Mom & Dad were *OLD*. And, um, needed help with… well, everything, it suddenly seemed. And could the retirement home take them soon? Like, next month? (NO, btw.)
FWIW, you sound like you are handling this much better than that.
