Holiday Meals with Family

On the four-season porch

Panorama shots are great. All you have to do is get everyone to sit still, sometimes for as long as FIFTEEN SECONDS. This shot, believe it or not, sucked least. 🙄 (photo by author, unless my family asks, in which case I have no clue where it might have come from or why I’m not in it)

Inspired by Tre L. Loadholt

As the years go by
our age creeps up
our meals
our food
our portions
grow less and less and less
(by choice)

So holiday gatherings
family meals we host
are no longer about food we like
but rather

“What will the family enjoy?”
“What will the young ones eat?”
“Will the boys eat enough for two (again)?”

So meals start with a prayer
leading to eating and talking
blending to talking and eating
sliding to talking and talking
ending with hugs and goodbyes
with all leftovers sent away
in carry-out containers
we have saved all year for this day
